Shingles Blew Off My Roof Is My Dad Ripping Me Off Over A New Roof?

Is my Dad ripping me off over a new roof? - shingles blew off my roof

My wife and I buy my childhood from my mother s dad. They were admitted and agreed, the rental for the first year of purchase ... which is in August.
We discovered that we need a new roof .. A few shingles were torn off. A new roof will be carried out from 5000 to 15,000. My wife is upset because my father told us we had at least 3-5 years left on the roof.
My father told me that the roof has 3 layers of shingles. (Too much of what I read) the first layer are cedar ... third are standard and were applied in 1980. After reading through the roof, I found a new roof should last 20 years. It took 27 years, with a third layer, which really should not have been.
A new roof of the money is too tight for my wife and me. That you would say something that should take some responsibility. Should I ask for help to pay a little? What is fair?

Aside, the dynamics of the family here and focus instead on the price of the roof.

Who gave you 5-15K? What is the size of the roof and what type of tiles you are ready to be included?

Yes, that is three layers is too large and has some development work here detachable. But unless a large house, or you have a roof especially difficult, the price is too high.

I think closer to $ 3 to 7K. Get a little serious and a good roofer estimate.

It's your father ... ask anything ... is easily spent more than $ 100 000 in fees to try to remove from the day of your birth.

She made the mistake of buying a house of his father, never business with family members! If you bought the house from somebody, but you could ask for compensation for what you want, they may even be able to go to court. But since your father thnk you have to suffer and to shake the accusation. His father has probably sold the house for much less than they would for someone else, so that savings and investment in the ceiling.

You learn some lessons from this case. It is generally a good idea to do business with the family. And always a professional inspection before you buy.
You said that you are leasing with purchase option. What does it mean that the agreement on the repair and maintenance of the house? Other posters are correct and that in a normal sale of roofs were replaced before the sale. Talk to your father and try to reach an agreement.
Replacing the roof will be expensive. You are sure that the 3 shifts a lot. The roof must be removed to bare wood. When installing the solid wood to help in all needs a new roof tiles on a weekend with friends, too. He is back at work late, but not complicated. Home Depot may sell a book with step by step guide for tiles. and costs about $ 20. Thus, the price for a new roof will be reduced to less than half.

You should discuss with your father.I there is another problem. I do not know how much money you should ask your father. But I know that if he were to sell the house to someone else, everything must be done, and proper maintenance.

You can tell his father. Everything depends on your relationship with him and his mother. It depends on your financial situation. Although you can set your finances if you do not want the house otherwise, and I suspect you will get a new roof put on. Be protected, where she rose from the damaged and you may be able to send their own children or grandchildren. It would be much later.

When you buy a house for someone else, according to a review of the need for a new roof and removable. Then negotiate with the seller. I think you should try to negotiate with your father. Perhaps each half or in other ways. That's the problem with the purchase of the family. You need to develop. You see in front of your father.
